The Cuban, Bristol

Lazy Boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of eating at The Cuban in Bristol last Thursday. The atmosphere was fantastic, the service was amazing and the food was literally unreal. We had a three course dinner with cocktails, all chosen for us by the chef. We had such a great experience, I honestly can’t recommend the restaurant enough! Our server, Macauley, was super friendly and gave us loads of great information about everything we ate.

We started with the cassava chips and queso frito. They were both fantastic. The cassava chips we’re served with a chimichurri sauce, feta and lime wedges. We’d never had cassava before. It was delicious; quite potato-like, but a slightly different texture and taste.  The queso frito was deep fried manchego served as 4 little wedges drizzled with honey.

For mains, we shared the trio of pork and the tacos de carne. The trio of pork is definitely something we wouldn’t have ordered ourselves, but oh.my.goodness it was so delicious! I don’t think I can do it justice myself, so I’ve taken the description from the menu:

An elegant dish smoked in-house using Beech Wood with three separate cuts. Pork Belly, slow-cooked for 36 hours using the Sous Vide method allowing the natural fats to melt slowly and baste the meat underneath. 9-hour-braised Pig Cheeks, packed with flavour, extremely tender. Also a Pork Fillet medallion. Served with caramelized onions, garlic and sage mash potato and cider sauce.

While the meat was all incredible, the mashed potatoes were possibly the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had... ever. They were so flavourful, creamy and amazing. If it’s possible to be in love with mashed potatoes, I can definitely say that I am.

The tacos were filled with shredded beef, onions and peppers. They were also so so good, but soooo filling! It’s quite difficult to get through them, but they're so delicious it’s hard to stop. The tacos are served with sour cream, salsa and guacamole.

Lastly, we had the white chocolate panna cotta. It was topped with raspberries, blueberries, passionfruit and a sprig of mint. Overall, we had an amazing time at The Cuban. Both the food and atmosphere were great, I can’t recommend it highly enough!
